Terms of Service
The terms that apply to purchasing and using Core & Cladding course content.
Last updated: July 2026
Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, purchasing a course, or otherwise using Core & Cladding, a user agrees to these Terms of Service. Anyone who does not agree should not use the site.
Eligibility
Core & Cladding is intended for users 18 years of age or older. By creating an account, a user confirms they meet this age requirement.
What Core & Cladding Is (and Isn't)
Core & Cladding is independent exam-preparation training built around the publicly available Knowledge, Skills & Abilities categories published by the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of the FOA. Completing a course on this site does not itself grant a CFOT, CFOS/S, or CFOS/T credential; certification is issued only by the FOA, through its Direct Certification Process or an FOA-Approved School. Core & Cladding makes no guarantee that completing any course will result in passing an FOA exam.
Course Access License
Purchasing a course grants a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to access that course's content for personal study. Course materials may not be copied, redistributed, resold, publicly posted, or used to create a competing product. Sharing login credentials or course access with anyone outside the purchasing account is not permitted and may result in account termination without refund.
Payment, Pricing, and Refunds
Prices are listed in U.S. dollars and charged through Stripe at the time of purchase. A refund may be requested within 14 days of purchase, provided less than 25 percent of the course has been completed; requests can be sent through the Security & Contact page. Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Core & Cladding reserves the right to change course pricing going forward; changes do not affect courses already purchased.
Intellectual Property
All course content, text, diagrams, and site design are the property of David Osisek unless otherwise noted. The FOA name and any FOA-published KSA categories referenced on this site remain the property of the Fiber Optic Association and are used descriptively, for accurate exam alignment, not to claim affiliation.
Prohibited Use
Users agree not to: attempt to bypass payment or login systems; scrape, mirror, or bulk-download course content; use the site to build a competing certification-prep product; or upload unlawful, harmful, or infringing content through any contact or support form.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Course content is provided for educational purposes and is believed accurate at the time of publication, but fiber optics standards, tools, and FOA exam content can change. Core & Cladding is provided "as is" without warranty that it is error-free, uninterrupted, or that it guarantees any specific exam or employment outcome.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Core & Cladding and David Osisek are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the site or course materials, including damages related to failed certification attempts, equipment used based on course guidance, or service interruptions. Total liability for any claim is limited to the amount paid for the course giving rise to the claim.
Termination
An account may be suspended or terminated for violation of these terms, including sharing access credentials or attempting to redistribute course content. A user may close their own account at any time by contacting support; see the refund section above for what remains eligible for a refund.
Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute not resolved informally will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Maine.
Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated as the platform grows to include logins, additional courses, or new payment options. The "Last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
Contact
Questions about these terms can be sent through the Security & Contact page.
